30 Jan 2026
A new generation is being invited back onto the ice as Netflix releases Miracle: The Boys of ’80, a powerful documentary revisiting one of the most extraordinary upsets in Olympic history: the United States men’s hockey team’s stunning victory over the Soviet Union at the 1980 Winter Olympics. The documentary brings together never-before-seen 16mm archival footage and first-hand reflections from the players themselves as they return to the scenes of their legendary triumph.
At the heart of the story is APB speaker Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team and the man who scored the game-winning goal against the Soviet Union. Eruzione’s leadership on the ice that day in Lake Placid helped secure a 4–3 upset over the heavily favored Soviet squad in what came to be known as the Miracle on Ice.
Sharing center stage is APB speaker Jim Craig, the U.S. team’s goaltender, whose performance helped keep the miracle alive. In the documentary and in recent interviews tied to the film’s release, Craig discusses the immense pressure he faced and the defining role he played by stopping 36 of 39 shots from the Soviet offense, a crucial factor in the team’s upset victory.
The Netflix documentary arrives at an opportune moment, just weeks ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, stirring nostalgia and Olympic excitement worldwide. The film’s directors, Max Gershberg and Jake Rogal, aimed to deepen the historical record by blending archival material and player reflections, allowing audiences to hear directly from the men who lived one of sport’s most iconic underdog stories.
Miracle: The Boys of ’80 isn’t just a retelling of a game; it is a first-hand testament to the resilience, belief, and teamwork that defined a remarkable moment in Olympic and American sporting history.
